This innate skill was forged in childhood while navigating Hope Street, the block he grew up on in Philadelphia. There, among hundreds of children living and playing together among the row homes, churches, and factories, creating escapades with each new season, he refined a communal ability to engage, adapt, and connect with an immense variety of human personalities. It was nothing in the late 1960s for a group of ten-year-olds to venture to the Philadelphia International Airport, as Frank remembers running on the tarmac from jet to jet between discovery adventures through local carpet factories to climb the smokestacks or run on the roofs.\u00a0\u00a0To top off this era of Philadelphia freedom, every May the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus would pitch its tents at Lighthouse Field, just three blocks from home. For a young Frank, the neighborhood was suddenly transfigured by sideshows, midways, and the thrilling, dangerous proximity of caged wild animals.<\/p>\n
