Zero Gravity Arts Consortium (ZGAC)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Zero Gravity Arts Consortium (ZGAC)<\/strong> is an international space arts organization dedicated to fostering and expanding access for artists to space flight technology and microgravity environments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Origins and Founders<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 1999<\/strong> by interdisciplinary artist Frank Pietronigro, alongside Laura Knott and Lorelei Lisowsky, ZGAC was created as a pioneering effort to bridge the gap between the arts and space exploration.<\/sup> Pietronigro himself made history in 1998 as the first American painter to create “drift paintings” while floating in zero gravity aboard NASA’s KC135 aircraft.<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mission and Objectives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The primary mission of the consortium is to break down the barriers that typically restrict space technology to purely scientific and military fields. ZGAC advocates for “artronauts”<\/strong>\u2014artists, curators, and cultural practitioners\u2014by securing them opportunities to experience and utilize space transport systems.<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n
